Hi! I'm Rebecca.
Travel has been a huge part of my life for as long as I can remember. Growing up with Welsh parents in Canada meant I had racked up a few international flights before I turned 10. I always had a passport, and I always wanted to use it.
I also have a long history of being a pop culture nerd, before I even knew what that meant. My childhood was filled with TGIF on Friday nights, Saturday morning cartoons, and the Wonderful World of Disney on Sunday nights. I played Pokemon Red and Blue and I had a favourite Sailor Scout (Mars). I was also blessed to be entering my teen years as some of the greatest fandoms were being formed, starting with Harry Potter in 1997, the Star Wars prequels in 1999, and the Lord of the Rings movies in 2001. I was obsessed. Not only did these books and movies open up other universes to me; they opened my eyes to the world we currently live in. “What do you mean Middle Earth is actually just New Zealand? Wait, King’s Cross is real too? These are all places I can actually visit?” The travel bug bit me hard in that moment, and has never let go since.
My love for Japanese culture led to me learning Japanese and then moving to Tokyo after university. Then when the recession hit and the work wasn’t in Japan, I moved to South Korea because it seemed fun. I had another fandom blessing – I lived in South Korea during the “Golden Age of K-Pop”, and got to experience the Hallyu Wave from within South Korea, and I saw almost every major band during those three years. I even saw one of BTS’s debut performances, though I had no idea who they were then.
Since returning to Canada, I’ve worked in social media and digital marketing, but my heart kept pulling me back towards travel. So in January 2024, I finally took the leap and completed my TICO Travel Counsellor certification, allowing me to become a travel agent after all these years.
